SUMMARY:Islamorada SCUBAPRO + Mote Community Coral Reef Restoration Program
DESCRIPTION:Join SCUBAPRO and Mote Marine Laboratory as a citizen scientist and receive hands-on opportunities to make a positive difference in the health of our coral reef system. Spend a day learning about coral reef science\, helping fragment coral utilizing Mote’s science to create genetically identical duplicates that grow as much as 50x faster than a natural coral. In water activities may include maintaining Mote’s expansive in-water nurseries\, outplanting on designated reefs\, and earn a certification upon program completion. Activities will be dependent on water and weather conditions. \nAll scuba divers are welcome to join SCUBAPRO and Mote for these restoration events. \nPrice includes a coral restoration workshop\, training on coral fragmentation\, a 2-tank dive and a citizen science card. Note: Scuba equipment rental is not included but can be arranged through the dive shop if joining a group trip or directly with the dive operator if booking independently. Tanks and dive weight will be provided. \nAges: 15+ no exceptions; participants age 15-17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. All divers MUST have completed a dive within one year prior to the session date\, or the dive operator will require a refresher course. \nPlease email keysvolunteers@mote.org for questions.

SUMMARY:2025 Youth Ocean Conservation Summit
DESCRIPTION:Event check in starts at 9 a.m.\n \n\nEmpowering the next generation of ocean conservationists \nAround the world\, our ocean and its inhabitants face many challenges. As human impacts continuously threaten the health of our marine ecosystems\, both locally and globally\, it is imperative that we involve youth in a campaign to solve these problems. \nThe Youth Ocean Conservation Summit\, launched in 2011 and held annually at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota\, Florida\, as well as satellite locations around the world\, provides youth participants the opportunity to learn from marine scientists and conservationists about current threats facing marine ecosystems\, both locally and globally. \nThrough the event\, participants are also inspired by their peers — youth leaders who are taking immediate action leading projects to protect the ocean. Attendees then collaborate with peers and mentors to develop action plans for their own ocean conservation projects. Workshops offered at the summit allow participants to gain the skills necessary to successfully implement conservation projects\, teach participants about career opportunities in marine conservation\, and expose them to opportunities they can take part in to help protect our planet’s oceans and their inhabitants. \nFor more information: www.yocs.org \n\nCost: $30 (includes all summit sessions\, lunch & a YOCS 2025 shirt) – admission to SEA is not included\, but can be purchased at a discounted rate during registration.\n\nNote: Groups of students attending together may be accompanied by an adult mentor\, but adults may not attend on their own. \nWorkshop Tracks \n\nAs Above\, So Below: Coastal and Benthic Environments\nBlueprints of the Blue: Ocean Tech & Life Support\nPathways & Portraits: Youth Leadership & Biological Illustration\n\nCancellation policy: Cancellations made before October 31st will be refunded in full. Due to the extensive time\, facility coordination efforts\, and planning involved\, no refunds will be issued for cancellations made after October 31st.
