The black tegula can carry other mollusks as "hitchhikers!" For example, a type of limpet rides on the black tegula's shell and eats the microscopic algae growing there.

These snails can be found from Vancouver Island, British Columbia south to Baja California, Mexico. They spend their time in the intertidal zone, which is underwater during high tide and above water at low tide.

Details:

This snail has a black shell that is white underneath and about as wide as it is tall. The snail’s head and foot are also black.
